Welioya Housing Development Project
The main objective of this project is to provide houses to 850 families that were affected and displaced due to conflict in the Welioya Divisional Secretariat area in the Mullathivu District. Accordingly, Welioya sustainable rural development work plan is jointly implemented as a combined, short period project by the Ministry of Resettlement, Ministry of Irrigation and Water Management and Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities. A sum of Rs.3 lakhs was allocated for the construction of a housing unit with the man-power assistance of the beneficiaries and the Department of Civil Defense. Provision of sanitation, drinking water, internal-roads and other infrastructure facilities under the project are being made by Ministry of Irrigation, and Water Management through the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka.
The first phase of the project was inaugurated on the 29th of July 2012 under which 500 houses are being constructed in Halambawewa, Kalyanpura, Monarawewa, Gajabapura and Atalugaswewa villages in the Welioya Divisional Secretariat area. A further no. of 350 houses will also be constructed under the second phase of the project to be implemented during 2013. Development of the Newly Resettled Model Village at Keppapilavu, Mullaitivu
This project is being implemented for provision of housing facilities to relocate the people who could not return to their places of origin due to their land being required for national security purposes. Under this project 165houses, 05 public-wells, 10 tube-wells, 165 toilets, community-center, pre-school and internal roads to the length of 7 kilometers will be provided at a total cost of Rs.111.16 Million. The first phase of the project was commenced on November 02, 2012 under which 50 houses will be constructed. The balance 115 houses will be constructed during the year 2013. The people from Sampur Village in the Mutur Divisional Secretarit were originally displaced as a result of war and they were temporarily accommodated in the Relief Centers. But they could not be resettled during the resettlement phase as the Sampur Village was also included in the proposed Economic Zone. Out of the 1272 families in relief centres and with relatives, under the first-phase, 56 families were provided with permanent housing, water facilities and internal roads at Seethanaveli in Mutur at a total cost of Rs.16 Million. In terms with the Action plan of resettling the displaced people who were in the Manik farm relief village 200 partly-built houses along with 200 permanent toilets were constructed at a total cost of Rs.65 Million for the benefits of those who opted to receive houses under this project.
